In loving memory
Raising awareness to save young lives.
Hello and welcome to the "Remembering Caleb" site.
My name is Helen Moran and I am Caleb Owen Clifford Jones’ Grandmother.
This site is a Memorial to Caleb’s life and to raising awareness, hopefully help prevent others from dying the way that he did.
Caleb was born, lived and died in Canberra on Gnunnuwal/Gnambri Country. He descends from the Wiradjuri and Wongaibon Nations of NSW through me and my fathers family.
There is so much to tell and share about Caleb’s life. Some parts inspirational and thought provoking whilst others are sad and disquieting.
He is a young man whose life was filled with joy, fun times and memorable moments.
He also had more than his fare share of trauma, struggles, hardship and emotional pain. He is greatly loved and he gave an enormous amount of love to others.
This memorial honors his memory, shares his story, and works to prevent similar tragedies from happening to other families.

In His Own Words
In 2017, as part of the Education and Social Justice Project, Caleb shared his journey, challenges, and hopes for the future in an interview with Georgetown University’s Berkley Center. His words reveal his resilience, love for learning, and commitment to his heritage.
Through this conversation, Caleb reflected on his personal challenges, the strength he found in his family, and the support systems that helped him grow. His words offer a glimpse into his determination, his pride in his heritage, and his hope for the future.
Sharing his journey, challenges, and hopes in a interview
I’ve always had low self‑esteem, and I always struggled at school because I had Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). I never knew about it at the time. My mom was sick and I often stayed home to care for her. School felt overwhelming, and I lacked motivation. But through it all, my mom kept me going and pushed me to keep trying.
My grandma was part of the Stolen Generation. She made sure we knew where we came from and to be proud of our heritage.
Boarding gave me structure and the support I needed to turn things around.
Caleb’s words offer a glimpse into his strength, his heritage, and the challenges he faced with courage. His story is one of perseverance, hope, and the unwavering support of those who loved him. By sharing it, we honor his memory and inspire others to keep striving, no matter the obstacles.

A Life Full of Promise, Gone Too Soon
Caleb was a bright, kind‑hearted young man whose life touched everyone he met. He had dreams, talents, and a future full of possibilities. But like too many young people, he became the victim of chroming — a dangerous inhalant trend that can take a life in an instant.
This is not just a statistic. This is a son, a brother, a friend. His story is a reminder that behind every number is a face, a family, and a community forever changed.
